Before the turn of the century Taseburo Shigematsu commissioned blacksmith Sadaharu Murakami to create the Higanokami knife. He wanted a rugged and long lasting knife that was a simple design. Before the 60's there were over 50 manufactures making these knives. Now only a few still making producing these knives.

These brass knives are made by a manufacturer that preserves traditional forging skills as well as the history of the Higo knife. It has a friction folder with non-locking mechanism. The blades are made of white steel and the body is made with folded brass. The blades are hand-forged sharp but brittle made for cutting not prying. It has a lever tang for opening the blade.
